What you’ll make
Sew the Vera as pull-on shorts or full-length trousers. The shorts have a narrow elastic waist, an optional decorative drawstring, and small side slits.
The relaxed design works as a summer separate or as pajama shorts, depending on the fabric and styling.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Stabilize vulnerable edges when the fabric requires it.
- Assemble the front, back, inseam, and side seams.
- Form and topstitch the optional side slits.
- Sew a neat casing and insert the elastic without twisting it.
- Prepare an opening for the optional drawstring.
- Finish the hems cleanly.
Fabric choices
The demonstrated shorts use a lightweight linen-viscose blend. Poplin, viscose, and other light woven fabrics are also suitable.
A knit creates a sportier version. Adapt the stabilization and needle to the chosen fabric instead of treating every pair the same way.
Make it your own
Use the short or full-length pattern, omit the drawstring for a plain elastic waist, or close the side seams completely instead of adding slits.
Pair the Vera with the Zahara halter top or Lanzarote top.
They also work with the Tanit shirt or unisex Osaka shirt.
Pattern sizing
The pattern runs from 34/36 through 58/60. The chart covers waists of 64–118 cm and hips of 90–144 cm.
The finished shorts length ranges from 31 cm in size 34/36 to 37 cm in size 58/60.
The video demonstrates the shorts. Downloads include short and full-length patterns in tiled A4 and A0 copy-shop formats, with separate information files.
