What you’ll make
Sew the Zahara, a loose halter top with finished armholes, an adjustable neckline tie, a back opening, and a gathered hem ruffle.
The tie runs through casings at the front and back, allowing you to adjust the neckline. It can fasten in a bow at the back or above one shoulder.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Stabilize the armholes and flared side edges.
- Make a narrow fabric tie with finished ends.
- Construct and topstitch the back opening.
- Finish the armholes with narrow hems.
- Create neckline casings and insert the tie.
- Gather and attach the hem ruffle evenly.
Fabric and materials
Choose a lightweight fabric. Supported woven options include viscose, chiffon, poplin, satin, and crepe.
A very lightweight knit, such as modal jersey, can also be used. A wider hem helps keep stretchy fabric from rolling.
Make it your own
- Omit the ruffle for a shorter top.
- Lengthen the ruffle to turn the top into a dress.
- Lower the back opening to the preferred depth.
- Use cord, bias tape, or lace trim instead of a fabric tie.
- Place the bow at the back or over one shoulder.
Sizing
The pattern covers 34/36 through 54/56. The chart spans bust measurements of 86–132 cm, waist measurements of 64–110 cm, and hip measurements of 90–136 cm.
The class includes the Zahara pattern in A4 home-print and A0 copy-shop formats, plus a measurement information sheet.
