What you’ll make

The Lanzarote is a lined halter top with a completely open back. A long tie crosses through four narrow loops, with two on each side, to shape and secure the back.

The pattern offers cropped and longer versions. Its shell-and-lining construction neatly encloses the neckline and armhole edges.

Wear it with the Jaén Pants or Bogotá Skirt.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Mark and sew darts in the shell and lining.
  • Make slim fabric loops and a coordinating back tie.
  • Stabilize curved edges on lightweight woven fabric.
  • Position and secure the four loops.
  • Enclose the loops between the shell and lining.
  • Turn the top and close the lower opening neatly.

Fabric choices

Lightweight fabrics such as viscose, muslin and satin suit the fluid shape. Fine woven fabrics may need support around the armhole curves to prevent distortion.

Use the same fabric for the shell and lining or choose two different fabrics. A purchased cord can replace a self-fabric tie, while Lycra can create a closer-fitting version.

Make it your own

Choose between the cropped and longer cutting lines. Use two suitable fabrics to make the fully enclosed top reversible.

The cropped version can be shortened further and sewn in Lycra as a bikini top. Sequined fabric is another suggested option for a different look.

Add extra loops to the longer version if desired, increasing the tie length to reach every crossing point.

Adjust the loops to suit the selected tie or cord. Check that the tie passes through each loop before trimming any excess.

Pattern sizing

The pattern covers sizes 34/36 through 54/56, for chest measurements of 86–132 cm, waists of 64–110 cm and hips of 90–136 cm.

The listed long-top length ranges from 54 to 59 cm by size. Corresponding tie lengths range from 138 to 148 cm.

The class includes downloadable A4 and A0 pattern files, plus a pattern information and measurement sheet.
