What you’ll make
Sew a child’s trucker-style jacket with a straight, roomy cut. The Toledo has front and back yokes, a collar, two-piece sleeves, cuffs, a waistband, and decorative chest pocket flaps.
Double rows of topstitching emphasize the paneled construction. The demonstrated jacket closes with metal snaps and has fasteners at the cuffs.

What you’ll learn in this class
- Stabilize curved and diagonal edges against distortion.
- Assemble the paneled back, front yokes, and faux pocket flaps.
- Topstitch with a twin needle or parallel rows.
- Construct the two-piece sleeves, openings, and cuffs.
- Ease the sleeve caps and set the sleeves.
- Attach and finish the collar around the curved neckline.
- Apply the waistband and chosen fasteners.
Fabric choices
Choose a fabric with enough body for jacket structure, such as canvas, denim, corduroy, or fine-wale corduroy. Coating fabric is another option suggested on the class page.
When using a directional print, cut the collar pieces with the finished orientation in mind so the visible motif faces the intended way after the collar is turned.
Make it your own
Emphasize the seams with contrasting topstitching thread or keep them subtle with matching thread. Depending on the area, use two rows, one row, or omit the decorative stitching.
Choose metal snaps, traditional buttons with buttonholes, jeans-style metal buttons, or plastic snaps when they suit your fabric.
