What you’ll make
Sew the fully lined Denny Jacket for babies and young children. It has a hood, a gathered back joined to a yoke, a hanging loop, and an optional animal-face patch pocket.
The sample closes with two buttons, but you can add more buttons down the front or use snaps instead.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Join the front lining and facings.
- Assemble the lining with a turning opening.
- Construct and topstitch the lined hood.
- Gather the back and attach the yoke.
- Join the exterior, lining, hood, and sleeves.
- Create and apply the optional animal pocket.
Fabric options
The sample uses fine-wale corduroy outside and soft velvet inside. Stable, nonstretch exterior fabrics help the seams retain their shape.
Outer options include denim, twill, wool coating, and quilted fabric. The lining can be velvet, quilted fabric, sherpa, fleece, minky, or another soft material.
Make it your own
Choose two buttons, a longer row of buttons, or snaps for the front. Omit the pocket, keep it plain, or finish it with ears and stitched facial details.
Place the animal pocket on either front at your preferred height. Topstitching around the hood and yoke is optional.
Pattern sizes
The included pattern ranges from 6–9 months through 4–5 years.
