What you’ll make
Sew a fully lined bomber jacket with a front zipper, two exterior pockets, a rib-knit collar and cuffs, and a rib-knit waistband.
The lining is assembled for a clean interior with no exposed construction seams.
Separate patterns let you make the jacket for a woman or child, including coordinating versions for an adult and little one.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Mark and sew the front and lining darts.
- Build curved, lined pockets and align the pair across the jacket fronts.
- Set sleeves into the outer jacket and lining without stretching the fabric.
- Attach rib knit evenly at the collar, cuffs and lower edge.
- Install the zipper while matching the pockets, collar and waistband.
- Join the lining to the shell and turn the jacket through a discreet opening.
Fabric and materials
The sample uses floral corduroy outside, knit fabric for the lining and substantial rib knit with enough body for the collar, cuffs and waistband.
A ballpoint needle works well when the corduroy has some give and the project also includes knit fabrics.
For extra warmth, the body may be lined with sherpa or faux fur, but the instructor advises against adding that bulk to the sleeves.
Make it your own
Replace the corduroy with quilted fabric or wool coating, omit the exterior pockets, or add patches to a child’s jacket.
Matching jackets can use the same fabrics throughout or share just one detail, such as coordinated pockets.
The rib-knit cuffs can also be sewn slightly smaller for a closer fit at the wrist.
Sizing and fit
The women’s pattern covers S–XXL. Its chart lists bust measurements of 88–104 cm, waist measurements of 66–82 cm and hip measurements of 96–112 cm.
The kids’ pattern covers ages 4/5 through 10/11 years. Choose the zipper length after measuring the front edge of the selected pattern size.
The class comes with separate downloadable pattern PDFs for the women’s and kids’ jackets.
