What you’ll make
Sew a space-themed target game that hangs in a doorway from two tension rods. Players toss soft rockets and shooting stars through openings to score points.
The panel has bound holes in different sizes, allowing smaller or harder targets to carry higher scores. Stuffed fabric pieces make the throwing elements soft and reusable.
This beginner-friendly project practices straight sewing, curves, bias binding and simple appliqué while creating a game for children and adults.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Finish a large panel and form tension-rod channels.
- Mark and cut target openings in several sizes.
- Bind circular openings with bias tape.
- Create felt score and space-themed appliqués.
- Sew, clip, turn and stuff rockets and stars.
- Close the stuffed pieces securely.
Fabric and supplies
You will need base fabric, bias tape for the openings, felt for appliqués and decorative details, and stuffing for the rockets and stars.
Two tension curtain or shower rods support the panel at the top and bottom. Check their diameter before sewing the rod channels.
Make it your own
Change the theme completely: the class suggests an ocean with fish or a forest with animals and leaves. You can also vary the number, size and point value of the targets.
Make the panel longer for more holes, or use a writable patch for changing scores and rewards. Adapt the dimensions to a doorway, hallway or other suitable opening.
If you made the doorway puppet theater, you may be able to reuse its tension rods.
Try another fabric activity with the fruit tic-tac-toe game or the memory game.
Make a coordinating play set with the dinosaur tail and dinosaur crown.
Panel measurements
The PDF starts with a 94 cm wide × 100 cm high base rectangle. The sample was planned for a 90 cm doorway.
Measure the installation space before cutting. Adjust the panel width and rod channels to the doorway and rods you will use; the height may also be extended.
The complete class covers the hanging panel, bound targets, score appliqués and stuffed throwing pieces. The PDF includes measurements, templates and material guidance.
