What you’ll make

Create a soft fabric Memory matching game with appliquéd cards and a reusable storage bag. The demonstrated set has ten pairs, but you can make as many pairs as you like.

The sample uses animals and objects cut from scraps. Batting gives the cards soft structure, while a neutral base helps the matching motifs stand out.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Prepare matching appliqués with nonpermanent fusible web.
  • Test and sew a close zigzag around fabric shapes.
  • Layer the card fronts, backs, and batting.
  • Turn and topstitch the cards for a framed edge.
  • Trace and heat-set permanent fabric-marker lettering.
  • Sew a bag with a boxed base and snap closure.

Fabric and supplies

Use neutral fabric for the cards and bag, colorful scraps for the paired motifs, batting for structure, and fusible web for the appliqués.

The demonstrated bag uses snaps. Hook-and-loop tape and a drawstring are also suggested closure options.

Make it your own

Replace the animals with letters, numbers, hearts, stars, geometric shapes, colors, or matching prints. Add more pairs over time for a larger, more challenging game.

The pattern includes four lettering styles for the bag, or you can create your own layout with a permanent fabric marker.

Verified measurements

The card fronts and backs are cut at 10 x 10 cm. The PDF gives a 27 x 24 cm fabric measurement for the storage bag.

The class includes a sewing video and a downloadable PDF with card and bag measurements, lettering options, and a concise material list.
