What you’ll make
Sew the Bari fanny pack, a roomy hands-free organizer that keeps small tools and everyday accessories visible and within reach.
It combines a zippered main compartment with open pleated pockets, a hook-and-loop flap pocket, a mesh panel, an elastic organizer, and hanging tabs.
An adjustable webbing strap and buckle let you wear it at the waist. The layout suits sewing, crafts, hairstyling, healthcare work, and other activities requiring quick access.
Compare it with the Summer, April, and Taylor designs.

What you’ll learn in this class
- Shape pleated organizer pockets from pattern markings.
- Sew and position a finished flap with a hook-and-loop closure.
- Bind mesh and attach it as a visible pocket panel.
- Create elastic sections for the items you plan to carry.
- Add reinforced tabs, rings, and a swivel-hook strap.
- Install the main zipper between the outer fabric and lining.
- Finish the bag with adjustable webbing and a buckle.
Fabric and notions
Use sturdy canvas outside and poplin for the lining. The project also uses pocket fabric, mesh, elastic, webbing, a zipper, a buckle, swivel hooks, rings, and narrow tape.
The class covers straight stitching and optional overcasting or serging. Water-soluble fabric glue can help hold small parts and zipper layers in place.
Make it your own
- Change the number and width of the open organizer sections.
- Divide the elastic to suit the tools you carry.
- Add, move, or omit hanging tabs and swivel hooks.
- Use snaps as an alternative detail where demonstrated.
- Choose which side receives the longer waist strap.
The beginner-friendly class includes the Bari pattern and demonstrates the organizers, lined zippered bag, and adjustable waist strap.
