What you’ll make
Make a streamlined fanny pack for carrying a phone, wallet, keys, sunglasses, and other small essentials while keeping your hands free.
The sample uses sturdy water-resistant world-map fabric. Because the fabric has body and does not fray, the demonstrated bag does not need a lining.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Install a zipper and form the flap that covers it.
- Keep a directional print upright across the front.
- Match center points before sewing curved sections.
- Attach the back panel while controlling bulky seams.
- Reinforce high-friction areas beside the zipper.
- Attach the webbing and adjustable buckle.
Fabric and supplies
Use sturdy water-resistant fabric or canvas for an unlined version. You will also need a zipper, backpack-style webbing, and a buckle.
For lightweight cotton, double each piece and place interfacing between the layers to give the bag more body.
Make it your own
Choose another sturdy print, or use Odicoat or Lamifix to add water resistance to suitable canvas.

Finished size
The finished Summer Fanny Pack measures approximately 13 cm high by 28 cm wide. The pattern calls for a zipper at least 30–31 cm long.
