What you’ll make

Use one pattern to sew either a full baby romper or a coordinating sweatshirt. Both versions have an asymmetrical front opening that can be finished with snaps or buttons.

The romper opens from the neckline to the foot, has soft wrist cuffs and includes enclosed feet. The sweatshirt uses the same upper construction and finishes with a turned hem.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Cut mirrored fronts and matching interfaced facings.
  • Sew stretch-knit seams with a suitable needle and stitch.
  • Attach and turn the front and neckline facing.
  • Set sleeves flat and add small knit cuffs.
  • Construct the curved crotch gusset and enclosed feet.
  • Finish the opening with evenly spaced snaps or buttons.

Choosing fabric

Use a knit with enough stretch to move comfortably with a baby. The examples include French terry and other stretch knits.

Use a stretch or jersey needle suited to the fabric. Sew with an overlocker, an elastic machine stitch or a straight stitch followed by zigzag finishing.

Make it your own

Follow the marked pattern line to make the sweatshirt instead of the full romper. The front can close in either direction if the mirrored pieces and facings are cut to match.

Choose snaps or buttons for the opening. Optional edge topstitching adds a decorative finish and can help the facing lie flat across the back neckline.

Pair the sweatshirt with Leggings for Women, Kids and Babies or Drop-Crotch Pants for Babies and Children.

Baby sizes

The pattern includes sizes 0, 0/3, 3/6, 6/9, 9/12 and 12/18 months, with listed heights from 56 to 80 cm.

The chart also provides chest, waist and hip measurements, allowing size selection from the baby’s current measurements rather than age alone.

The class includes the romper and sweatshirt options, graded A4 and A0 pattern files, and a detailed video lesson.
