Pet Bed (for Dogs, Cats, and More)
In today’s sewing class, we’ll show you how to make this easy, comfortable dog bed. It’s easy to wash, and the pattern comes in two sizes, with instructions for making it larger.

What you’ll make
Sew a soft bed for a dog or cat, with padded sides and a removable center cushion.
Ties bring the four corners together to form the bed. Untie them and remove the cushion to flatten the outer bed, making both parts easier to wash separately.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Sew, turn, fill, and close the removable cushion.
- Join the base, front, back, and sides with clean corners.
- Place and secure the ties before joining the outer layers.
- Reinforce seams for a pet that will give the bed heavier use.
- Fill the walls through openings and close them neatly.
- Clip and turn curves and corners cleanly.
Fabric and filling
The class uses a woven fabric and soft filling for the cushion and walls. If your fabric has a directional print, check that it will face upright before sewing.
The center base is left without filling because the removable cushion provides the padding. This also reduces bulk when washing the outer bed.
Make it your own
- Use ready-made bias tape instead of sewing matching corner ties.
- Use stronger or repeated stitching for a larger pet or heavier wear.
- Follow the pattern’s enlargement guidance if the supplied sizes are too small.
- Complete the set with a dog coat, adjustable collar, or waste-bag dispenser.
