What you’ll make
Draft and sew a custom lined coat from your dog’s measurements. The design includes a shaped body, customizable collar, and wraparound belt with an overlapping closure.
When needed, add an opening for a harness ring.
Complete the set with an adjustable dog collar.
You can also make the matching waste-bag dispenser.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Take the measurements needed for a custom fit.
- Draft the body, collar, and belt pieces.
- Test the paper pattern and adjust the rear darts.
- Sew bulky or slightly stretchy layers evenly.
- Construct and attach the collar.
- Fit the belt closure and harness opening.
Fabric and warmth
The sample pairs a 100% cotton outer fabric with soft sherpa fleece inside. A walking foot helps feed the bulky, slightly stretchy lining evenly.
The collar can be worn with the fleece facing outward. The cotton outer can also be treated with waterproofing gel for greater water resistance.
Make it your own
Adjust the body length, belt position, belt width, and rear shaping. Make the collar short, tall, softly gathered, or deep enough to fold over.
Use hook-and-loop tape for an adjustable overlap or substitute snaps. Try on the coat before placing the closure and optional harness opening.
