What you’ll make

Sew a bone-shaped dispenser that keeps a roll of dog waste bags close at hand. An elasticized back panel holds the roll, and a central buttonhole lets you pull out the bags.

A fabric loop and carabiner make the dispenser easy to clip to a leash, belt, or pants. Double-sided interfacing gives the small accessory extra body.

What you’ll learn in this class

Create narrow casings in the roll-holding panel.
Insert elastic and form even gathers.
Stitch a fabric loop around the carabiner.
Layer the shaped pieces in the correct order.
Clip curved seams and turn the bone shape cleanly.
Insert and fuse double-sided interfacing.
Sew and open the buttonhole used as the dispensing slot.

Materials

You’ll need fabric, double-sided interfacing, bias tape for the hanging loop, elastic, and a carabiner.

The class also suggests batting or stuffing as an alternative inner layer. A walking foot helps feed the thicker curved edges during the final topstitching.

Make it your own

Use dog-print fabric to emphasize the bone shape, or add the pet’s name with an appliqué or label. The Seville card holder wallet offers a related label idea.
