What you’ll make
Create a made-to-measure infinity dress with a half-circle skirt, two long front straps, and an elasticized back. Wrap, cross, and tie the straps in different ways to change the neckline and coverage.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Take the waist and hip measurements needed for the dress.
- Calculate and draft the skirt and straps with the supplied worksheet.
- Lay out and cut a half-circle skirt without a printed pattern.
- Gather the front ends of the straps evenly.
- Position the overlapping straps at the front waist.
- Create the back casing and adjust the elastic for a comfortable fit.
Fabric and supplies
For the demonstrated finish, choose a fabric with some stretch that does not fray. Modal and Lycra are shown. Crepe or stretch satin requires extra edge finishing or doubled straps if it frays.
Make it your own
Choose a long or short skirt and experiment with knotted, crossed, short-sleeve, or strappy arrangements. The worksheet lets you draft the skirt to your preferred length.
Complete the outfit with the Nancy Blazer or Batwing Jacket, plus a clutch or drawstring bag.
Made-to-measure fit
This project is drafted from your waist, hip, and desired skirt-length measurements rather than a fixed size range. You can test and adjust the back elastic before securing it.
The class includes a downloadable worksheet for drafting the pieces and estimating fabric needs. It is a measurement guide rather than a graded sewing pattern.
