What you’ll make
Sew the Link, a compact wallet with space for six cards, bills and coins. Two upper snaps close the wallet, while a separate flap closes the coin pocket inside.
The design also includes a small grab strap.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Mark pieces in faux leather or another non-fraying fabric.
- Create two rows of card slots.
- Divide the card section with straight topstitching.
- Assemble the coin pocket and its flap.
- Install and align both parts of a snap.
- Topstitch and reinforce the grab strap.
Fabric and tools
Use a non-fraying fabric with some body, such as faux leather, felt or softshell.
Choose plastic or metal snaps. A Teflon presser foot and Microtex needle can help with faux leather, while clips avoid unnecessary pinholes.
If the fabric drags under a standard presser foot, the class shows simple ways to help it feed more smoothly.
Make it your own
Combine contrasting faux leather colors or use one shade throughout. Choose plastic or metal snaps to coordinate with the fabric.
The coin-pocket sides may be left open or stitched, and its flap can close with one or two snaps.
