What you’ll make

Sew the Singapore, a zippered organizer offered in two sizes: a small coin purse and a larger case or toiletry bag.

Opening the outer zipper reveals three storage areas. Two open sections flank a central zippered compartment for separating coins, cards, papers, keys and other small items.

The demonstrated construction is unlined. Finished fabric edges and topstitching keep the interior tidy without adding a separate lining.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Prepare fabric for an unlined organizer.
  • Install the central compartment zipper.
  • Secure the compartment inside the organizer.
  • Attach the outer zipper.
  • Control the folded layers when closing the sides.
  • Trim the zipper and add a finished stop.

Fabric and supplies

Canvas or another heavier fabric gives the organizer body. If you use quilting cotton or poplin, add lightweight interfacing or OdiCoat for more structure.

The sample uses OdiCoat to add body, reduce fraying and create a wipeable, waterproof finish. It also uses a molded outer zipper, a standard inner zipper and Kraft-Tex for the zipper stop.

Make it your own

Use the same fabric throughout or combine prints for the exterior, open sections and center pocket. Keep directional motifs upright when cutting and preparing the top edges.

Make the zipper stop from Kraft-Tex, faux leather, cork, bias tape or fabric. You may omit it when the outer zipper is already the required length.

Sizing

The pattern provides two cutting plans. The small version is a coin purse, while the large version works as a case or toiletry bag with the same three-part interior.

The video demonstrates the layered, unlined construction. The downloadable PDF provides cutting guidance for both sizes.
