What you’ll make
The Laos is a children’s tie-strap jumpsuit with shaped front panel seams and pockets set into those seams. It can be sewn with long legs or in a short warm-weather version.
The shoulder straps finish in adjustable ties, while the paneled front gives the jumpsuit its distinctive shape.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Stabilize curved and diagonal woven edges.
- Build the front panels and integrated pockets.
- Topstitch panel seams for a flatter finish.
- Bind the front and back necklines.
- Extend the bindings into shoulder ties.
- Join the rise, side seams, and inseams.
Fabric choices
Choose a lightweight woven for summer or a denim-like fabric for cooler weather and layering. The demonstrated garments use woven fabrics.
Knit fabric can also be used. For loosely woven fabric, the class explains how to stabilize curved and diagonal edges before assembly.
Make it your own
Sew long or short legs, omit the pockets, or simplify the front by leaving out the shaped panels. The bodice can also become a cropped top or be lengthened into a dress.
Without the shaped panels, use a different pocket style, such as patch or side-seam pockets.

Pattern sizing
The pattern covers ages 4/5 through 14/15, corresponding to heights from 110 to 164 cm. Downloads are supplied for A4 home printing and A0 large-format printing.
