What you’ll make
Make sleeveless children’s overalls with a front button closure, full-length legs, and optional patch pockets at the back.
They work alone in warm weather or layered over a basic kids’ T-shirt when it is cooler.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Cut mirrored front and back pieces.
- Stabilize the curved edges and button-front area.
- Bind the neckline and armholes.
- Prepare and securely topstitch patch pockets.
- Construct the legs and match the crotch seams.
- Sew buttonholes and position the buttons.
Choosing your fabric
The featured overalls use cotton woven fabric. You can also use knit fabric, replacing the woven bias finish with knit bands at the neckline and armholes.
Make it your own
Keep the legs full length, shorten them to cropped or shorts length, or stop above the pants section to make a sleeveless top.
Add two contrasting back pockets, one pocket, or none. A separate PDF offers several pocket shapes.
Sizing
The pattern covers ages 5/6, 7/8, 9/10, and 11/12. It is supplied in A4 and A0 formats.
The class includes the overall pattern and a separate file of pocket options, then demonstrates the bias finishes and front button closure.
