This dreamcatcher is very easy to make and is for the whole family!
Materials needed to make this dreamcatcher:
- Embroidery hoops in different sizes, one large and one smaller, or any round object you can recycle.
- Spools of cotton or wool
- Scissors
- Cardboard for cutting out and making pom-poms
First, we’ll cover the hoops with whatever type of thread, yarn, cotton, or cord we’ve decided to use. Keep winding it around; if you want to change color, hide the excess thread by winding the new color over it. When you finish the large hoop, tie a knot at the end and leave a loop so you can hang it. Don’t cut the thread flush; leave plenty, since we’ll use it to make the dreamcatcher’s “web.” Do the same with the small hoop, but without leaving the loop.
Once we have the two hoops, large and small, we’ll start making the web by winding the thread all around without crossing through the center of the small one. To finish it, try tying a knot near the loop so it stays discreet.
The next step is to cut the threads to whatever length we want, keeping in mind that the actual length will be half the length of the cut thread. Once they’re cut, we’ll knot them by folding them in half at the bottom of the hoop, so that each thread we hang leaves two ends.
To finish, we’ll comb all the threads and cut them into a “V” shape. If you like, you can use the corner of a sheet of paper as a template, and tie pom-poms to the ends to give them weight. You can also add feathers or other types of beads.
