Today we set out to gather our best and prettiest T-shirt yarn tutorials, both in video and photo format, so you can get a little more familiar with this material if you still haven’t decided to try it.
Sometimes we realize that blogs are like unsettling bottomless wells. There’s everything here, but some things get so far back in time that they become lost and difficult to find. 1. T-SHIRT YARN BRACELETS
This tutorial has undoubtedly been one of the most popular we’ve made, and one of the ones that has received the most exposure and views. The secret to its success is probably its wonderful simplicity, how beautiful the results are, and the fact that it’s suitable for all ages. 2. T-SHIRT YARN STOOL
Using an ordinary stool frame without its seat as a base, you can make a beautiful T-shirt yarn stool like the one in the photograph. It would cost a fortune in a store, but making it with your own hands will cost very little and give you much more satisfaction. Remember that, if you want it to be functional—that is, if you want to sit on it rather than have it be merely decorative—you need to pull the T-shirt yarn strips very tight so you don’t slip between them or sink too far. We love this stool.
3. MULTI-PURPOSE T-SHIRT YARN BRAID
In this case, instead of using a single strand of T-shirt yarn as with the bracelets, you braid five strands so that it becomes more substantial and flat. It’s a multi-purpose braid because you can really use it for many things: as a strap or handle for a bag, as a hairband, as a belt, also as a bracelet or necklace, or as a pretty strap for a T-shirt… The truth is, it has countless uses. 4. T-SHIRT YARN CHAIR
Another craft that is super easy and that you can make on your own or as a family. The one we’re suggesting is just one idea, but depending on the type of chair, you’re sure to come up with many more ways to do it. If you have the time and motivation, you can even weave a complete backrest using the same technique we used for the stool. 5. CUSTOMIZED T-SHIRT WITH T-SHIRT YARN
The best thing about these T-shirt yarn tutorials is that they’re all incredibly easy. Although T-shirt yarn can also be worked by knitting or crocheting it, these ideas are for everyone. For this one, you only need a knit T-shirt, a little T-shirt yarn that contrasts with its color, scissors, a safety pin, and a template that you can draw yourself. Mark the design on the T-shirt with a marker, then make small, evenly spaced cuts: this creates the holes the T-shirt yarn will pass through. To thread it, attach the safety pin to one end, then simply pass it through the holes as if you were sewing. It couldn’t be easier!
6. SCOOBY DOO KNOT BRACELETS
If we tell you that you can make a Scooby Doo with T-shirt yarn, we don’t mean that you can make a huge dog. A Scooby Doo is a type of square knot, commonly used to make bracelets with all kinds of plastic thread, rope, cord, and, why not, T-shirt yarn. I’m sure that as soon as you see it, you’ll instantly recognize the technique, because you probably had loads of bracelets like these when you were little. 7. T-SHIRT YARN NECKLACE
And to match your bracelets, of course, you need a beautiful T-shirt yarn necklace. It’s just as easy to make as the first type of bracelet we showed you: the method is the same. But instead of using a single strand of T-shirt yarn, you can use two together in different colors that create a lovely contrast. That’s what we did for the one you see in the photograph. And last but not least, another very original and simple way to use T-shirt yarn: to wrap a gift!
