We’d been searching for it for a long time, with countless ideas about all the things we’d love to make with it. And, as persistence pays off, we finally have it in the store, alongside the beautiful fabrics and other materials that let us create incredible things. It’s food-safe plastic for baby products that, by the way, we’ve already put to use.

The plastic over the fabric
It’s a thin, translucent, flexible plastic. Its consistency makes it very easy to work with, and it feels pleasant to the touch. But best of all is its composition. This material is designed to meet the highest environmental standards, minimizing its environmental impact. It complies with the REACH regulations for chemical substances, whose aim is to protect nature and human health in relation to the chemical substances used by industry.
In short: it’s biodegradable, more ecological, more respectful of the environment, and it doesn’t release any kind of toxin that could harm your health or, of course, the health of the little people you love most. That’s why it’s ideal for use in baby products, food-related applications, and so on.
In addition to that, it has some other very interesting features:
- mold-resistant
- waterproof
- resistant to all kinds of stains (including oil, grease, blood…)
- resistant to extreme temperatures
- resistant to ultraviolet rays
- suitable for printing
- can be welded (although this last feature probably won’t be much use to you)
In other words, it can withstand everything.
What lovely things have we made with the food-safe plastic?So far, we’ve used it for a couple of sewing projects directly related to kids and food. Remember that, thanks to its features, this material can come into direct contact with food without any health risk. Here are our little projects:
School sandwich wrap
Since we’re becoming more eco-friendly (something we’re very into), we’re going to eliminate aluminum foil from our home. Some daycares and schools are also starting to reject it, which we think is wonderful. There are much smarter, more respectful reusable alternatives.
We’ve jumped on the bandwagon by creating these beautiful school sandwich wraps. They’re lined inside with this special plastic, naturally. Sensory elephant plush
We also used it in this little elephant plush for two reasons. The first is to add a different texture, so your little one can experience different sensations that stimulate them. The second is that, if they suck on the toy or put any part of it in their mouth, you can feel completely at ease.
