What you’ll make
Make a reusable fabric wrap for carrying a sliced-bread sandwich or a longer baguette-style sandwich. Hook-and-loop tape keeps the wrap closed around its contents.
The class includes a rectangular version and a squarer version that can be finished with a playful padded frog face and tongue.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Layer exterior fabric, lining, and food-safe plastic.
- Position hook-and-loop tape for a secure closure.
- Sew and turn the layers for a clean outer finish.
- Create fused-and-stitched appliqué eyes.
- Shape a padded curved frog head.
- Choose the simpler format for fewer decorative steps.
Materials and food-contact layer
Use exterior fabric, optional lining, food-safe translucent polyurethane, bias tape, and hook-and-loop tape. The frog version also uses batting or interfacing and fusible web.
The demonstrated plastic is suitable for food storage and complies with REACH requirements. Its surface is waterproof, but needle holes mean the finished wrap is not a leakproof bag.
Make it your own
Leave off the frog for a quick geometric wrap, or adapt the character into another animal such as a cat or panda.
Add a child’s name to the hook-and-loop tab or place a labeled kraft-tex detail beneath the flap where it remains visible.
Choose the right format
The squarer model is intended for sliced-bread sandwiches. The longer rectangular model accommodates baguette-style sandwiches and can also hold a square sandwich.
