DIY world map travel kitGood morning, sewing addicts! Now that 2016 has just begun, many of you may have resolved to travel more, make more time for yourselves, and discover new places… At Lulu Ferris, we also have an adventurous spirit, so when we create new things, we always keep those dream trips in mind. That’s why today we’ve gathered all those tutorials into a single post so you can make your own DIY travel kit.

For these projects, our favorite is the world map fabric: not only because it’s beautiful, which it certainly is, but also because it’s a strong, good-quality fabric that stands up well to wear and tear. Here’s everything you need to make a proper DIY travel kit. If you think anything is missing, let us know and we’ll consider showing you how to make that, too. Your ideas are always welcome :)

DIY travel kit with tutorials.

DIY travel kit laminated fabric1. Laminated toiletry bag.

A must-have for your DIY travel kit to pack inside your suitcase. Don’t risk having shampoo or cream spill and get all over your clothes. Waterproofing fabric and working with it is very easy with Lamifix interfacing, which creates an ideal laminated effect for toiletry bags or cases. You can find the tutorial for making a laminated toiletry bag like this one on our YouTube channel.

DIY travel kit beach bag ideas2. Passport cover.

For intercontinental travelers. A passport cover is very easy to make and will protect your passport so it doesn’t get damaged from being carried inside your purse alongside lots of other things. To make it, you only need a little fabric and some matching bias tape. Here’s the link to the passport cover tutorial, on the Lulu ferris YouTube channel.

DIY travel kit carry-on bag3. Travel bag.

For anyone who likes to travel light. You can also use it as a carry-on bag or for weekend getaways. It’s foldable, lightweight, and durable, as well as unmistakable. You can also add an inside or outside pocket for things you want to keep close at hand. It looks amazing in the world map fabric! You can find the travel bag tutorial among the premium tutorials from Lulu Ferris.

Travel document holder DIY travel kit4. Travel document holder.

Besides your passport, there are always many other important documents to carry, from card size to folio size. Many of these things, such as plane tickets, won’t fit in your wallet, but ideally, you should keep everything together and protected. That’s why we created this travel document holder, with lots of pockets and compartments so you can keep everything close at hand. You can also find the travel document holder tutorial at Lulu Ferris.

DIY travel kit flat iron case5. Flat iron/curling iron case…

I’m a dedicated traveler—the person writing this post. Recently I went to Mataró to visit Laura and her family and, oh no! I forgot my flat iron at their house. This week I received it in the mail along with a very special gift. Look at this beautiful Lulu Ferris case! For trips when you’re not bringing your flat iron, it can also be perfect for carrying toiletries, underwear, or anything else you want to keep separate from the rest. I love it!!! There’s no tutorial for this one, but would you like us to make one?

With this basic DIY travel kit, you’re ready to go anywhere. Now you only need a little time to make it using the tutorials and then, of course, to get away somewhere and enjoy it.

And if you like the world map fabric, hurry, because we only have the last fat quarters left! You can order it here and we’ll send it to your home. Have a great trip!
