What you’ll make
Sew a structured carrier for a rolled yoga, Pilates, or exercise mat. A long zipper opens the bag widely, while an adjustable strap lets you carry it over one shoulder or crossbody.
A side pocket with a hook-and-loop flap keeps small essentials such as keys, a phone, or a gym card separate from the mat.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Stabilize and construct a fabric carrying strap.
- Finish the ends of a zipper with bias tape.
- Insert a zipper along a curved bag opening.
- Sew circular and half-circle end panels.
- Shape and attach a flap pocket with boxed corners.
- Install a slider buckle for an adjustable strap.
Choosing your fabric
Use canvas or another heavyweight woven fabric with enough body for an unlined carrier. A lightweight cotton would require additional interfacing and a lining, so it is not recommended for this version.
Make it your own
You may substitute ready-made bag webbing for the fabric strap and use snaps instead of hook-and-loop tape on the pocket.
Complete a handmade workout set with the women’s athletic top, leggings, and women’s athletic shorts.
Mat size
The carrier is designed for a rolled mat measuring 62 cm long and approximately 11 cm in diameter. For a longer mat, add the needed length to the measurements supplied in the PDF.
The video class includes a PDF with cutting measurements, the circular pattern piece, materials, and strap and pocket dimensions.
