Yang Pants
I’ve been so excited to share this tutorial with you: the Yang Pants! These straight-leg, wide, comfortable pants are the women’s pants you’ve been asking for—as fabulous as our girls’ palazzo pants, which you loved so much. They feature side pockets (because we love pockets) and a waistband with elastic at the back for […]

What you’ll make
Sew wide, straight-leg women’s pants with side-seam pockets and small front pleats. The waistband is fixed and smooth in front, with elastic across the back for easier dressing.
Pair them with a top adapted from the Izzie dress or long summer dress.
The Amelia dress pattern offers another top option.
For a children’s wide-leg project, see the kids’ palazzo pants.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Staystitch curved crotch edges to prevent distortion.
- Fold and secure the small front pleats.
- Construct side-seam pockets with clean openings.
- Assemble the legs and align the crotch seams.
- Interface and attach the fixed-front, elastic-back waistband.
- Check the length before finishing the wide-leg hems.
Fabric and supplies
The sample uses soft viscose. Other supported options include linen, cotton, satin, crepe, very lightweight denim, or another fabric with suitable drape.
For slippery viscose or satin, use a fine Microtex needle, a walking foot, and plenty of pins. The back waistband uses 3 cm elastic.
Make it your own
Fabric choice can make the pants more fluid or structured. The class also suggests a knit version with elastic around the entire waist and no front pleats for a sweatpant-style variation.
Before hemming, try on the pants or compare them with a well-fitting pair. Finish the hem with a straight stitch or twin needle.
Sizing
The current page lists sizes 36–52. The supplied pattern is available in A4 and A0 formats.
The class gives particular attention to slippery fabrics, pocket openings, pleat direction, and the transition between the fixed and elasticized waistband sections.
