What you’ll make
Sew a long, lightweight summer dress with slim straps, a front V-neck, a shallower back V-neck, and discreet pockets built into the side seams.
Front darts add shaping, while facings finish the necklines and armholes. The same pattern can become a blouse or shorter dress by changing the finished length.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Transfer and sew the garment and facing darts.
- Make self-fabric straps and secure them at the neckline.
- Insert side-seam pockets while preserving the openings.
- Use shaped facings to finish the neckline and armholes.
- Join the side seams through the facings and pocket bags.
- Sew a narrow hem with or without a specialty foot.
Fabric guidance
Choose a lightweight woven fabric with fluid drape, such as crepe, viscose, microviscose, or satin. Directional prints need extra care during layout.
The class sample uses crepe, which shifts easily. Careful marking, pinning, and supporting the garment’s weight at the machine help keep the seams aligned.
Make it your own
Keep the full length, shorten the garment to the knee or another preferred point, or cut it as a blouse while allowing enough fabric for the hem.
Keep the back V-neck or make it straight. The side pockets are optional, and the self-fabric straps can be replaced with ribbon, cord, or lace trim.
Sizes
The pattern includes women’s sizes S, M, L, and XL.
The video class includes a printable multi-size pattern for the long dress or blouse.
