What you’ll make
Sew the Vigo Blazer, a lined, oversized jacket with a relaxed silhouette, classic lapels, a collar and front buttons. Its paneled body and two-piece sleeves provide tailored structure without a close fit.
The featured version has decorative pocket welts rather than functional pockets. For a shorter, more fitted jacket, compare it with the Nancy Blazer.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Stabilize curved, diagonal and designated pattern pieces.
- Build the paneled outer shell and matching lining.
- Prepare and position the collar, lapels and decorative pocket welts.
- Assemble two-piece sleeves and ease the sleeve caps into the armholes.
- Join the lining to the blazer and turn it through a sleeve opening.
- Mark and sew the chosen buttonholes and buttons.
Fabric and materials
The sample uses viscose twill for softness, drape and movement. Twill or gabardine can also work, while a stiffer fabric produces a firmer result. Choose a lighter fabric for a warm-weather version.
The blazer is fully lined and uses interfacing in the areas indicated by the pattern. Because the project has many pieces and slippery lining fabric, some previous garment-sewing experience is recommended.
Make it your own
Add optional shoulder pads before turning the blazer right side out. The pattern marks three front button positions, but the sample uses one working buttonhole with additional decorative buttons.
Leave the pocket welts plain, secure them by hand or add buttons. You can also replace the decorative welts with functional welt pockets using the method referenced in the class.

Pattern sizing
The pattern covers grouped sizes 34/36 through 54/56. It lists chest measurements of 86–132 cm, waist measurements of 64–110 cm and hip measurements of 90–136 cm.
Finished blazer length increases by size from 75 cm to 80 cm. A4 home-print and A0 copy-shop pattern files are provided.
