What you’ll make
Sew a storage pouf that doubles as a seat when filled with soft items such as blankets, comforters, fabric, winter clothing or stuffed animals.
A long zipper opens the exterior. Inside, one area is immediately accessible and another sits beneath a zippered cover, helping the contents stay contained while the pouf is open.
Two side handles make the filled pouf easier to reposition.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Stabilize and mark large circular pieces.
- Install the inner and outer zippers.
- Build the covered inner storage area.
- Match circular seams with quarter and eighth marks.
- Add a facing that conceals the outer zipper.
- Attach and reinforce the side handles.
- Manage thick intersections and fabric layers.
Fabric and base choices
Choose a sturdy fabric with body, such as canvas, corduroy, lightweight denim or twill. Fine poplin or quilting cotton is not recommended when the pouf will be used as a seat.
A nonslip or hard-wearing fabric is recommended for the base because it rests on the floor. Test layered scraps first if your machine struggles with thick fabric.
Make it your own
Contrast the top, bottom and zipper facing, or add cords or ribbons to the zipper pulls. Coordinate the side handles with the exterior.
Try the foldable lidded storage box or wall organizer for more storage projects.
You can also sew the storage bag box.
Finished measurements
When fully filled, the finished pouf measures approximately 64 cm in circumference by 32 cm high.
The video class includes downloadable A4 and A0 pattern options for the storage pouf.
