What you’ll make
Make a lightweight summer towel wrap that crosses over the body and stays in place while you move or dry your hair.
Straps support the wrap, a hook-and-loop closure secures the upper edge, and elastic across part of the back adds ease and helps prevent gaping.
Optional patch pockets hold small items while you get ready or spend time by the pool. This is a light alternative to a traditional robe with sleeves.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Finish terry cloth edges to suit the fabric thickness.
- Sew the upper casing and thread elastic through part of the back.
- Position and sew a hook-and-loop closure.
- Construct, turn and topstitch the shoulder straps.
- Fit the wrap before setting the strap position and length.
- Prepare and attach optional curved patch pockets.
Fabric and handling
The project is designed for terry cloth. A thinner towel fabric works well with double-fold hems, while thicker terry may call for single-fold finishes and extra care around bulky layers.
The class shows how to test whether your machine can sew through the folded terry and hook-and-loop tape before deciding when to attach the closure.
Make it your own
- Wear the wrap with straps or leave them off.
- Shorten or lengthen it for your preferred coverage.
- Adjust the strap length and placement after trying on the wrap.
- Add one or two pockets, or omit them.
- Change the pocket shape and size to suit what you carry.
