What you’ll make
Sew close-fitting sport leggings with a high waistband, paneled seams, and practical side pockets for a phone, keys, or gym card.
The Lycra lets the leggings follow the body comfortably for exercise, relaxed days, or a coordinated sporty outfit.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Cut mirrored pieces and align the panels using the pattern notches.
- Build the side pockets into the upper and lower side panels.
- Sew Lycra with a stretch needle and an elastic stitch or serger.
- Topstitch with a twin needle or coverstitch machine.
- Join the legs and crotch, then attach the folded high waistband.
- Choose a manageable method for hemming narrow stretch legs.
Fabric and sewing setup
The demonstrated pair uses Lycra. Choose a stretch fabric that conforms comfortably to the body, and fit the machine with a needle intended for stretch fabrics.
A serger is useful but optional. A regular machine can sew the leggings with an elastic stitch or with a straight stitch and zigzag finish where appropriate.
Make it your own
Build a coordinated set with the sports top or the basic tank top.
Add the raglan sweatshirt or the hooded unisex sweatshirt for an extra layer.
Pattern sizing
