What you’ll make

Make a simple sleeveless T-shirt for warm weather using a downloadable children’s pattern. This unisex basic includes an optional patch pocket.

Wear it alone or pair it with the Lucas shorts for an easy summer outfit.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Cut full front and back pieces on the fold.
  • Prepare and topstitch an optional woven pocket.
  • Join knit shoulder and side seams.
  • Control and stitch narrow armhole hems.
  • Quarter a neckband and neckline for even placement.
  • Finish seams with a zigzag stitch or serger.

Fabric and supplies

Jersey knit is recommended for the shirt. The sample uses nonstretch woven fabric for the pocket, with its raw edges finished before attachment.

Use a ballpoint or jersey needle for the knit. Fabric glue, pins, or basting can help control the small hems and neckband.

Make it your own

Omit the pocket, move it to the back, or change its shape. Try a print, fabric paint, appliqué, or the pineapple stencil.

Sizing

The downloadable shirt pattern covers sizes from 12–18 months through 5–6 years.

The complete video class includes an A4 shirt pattern for home printing and a separate file of pocket templates.
