In this tutorial, we’ll learn how to sew a T-shirt for little ones with an envelope neckline that makes it easy to dress and undress even the youngest babies. It’s a very easy project, with patterns in sizes 0 to 24 months!

What you’ll make
Sew a comfortable short-sleeved T-shirt for babies and toddlers. Its overlapping envelope neckline opens wide for easier dressing, while the roomy, slightly bloused shape is finished with sleeve bands and a hem band.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Cut on the fold and transfer the pattern notches.
- Attach the front and back neckline bands with controlled stretch.
- Overlap and secure the envelope neckline before adding the sleeves.
- Set the sleeves flat, then sew each side and underarm seam continuously.
- Distribute and attach the sleeve and hem bands evenly.
- Sew stretch fabric with a stretch stitch or serger.
Fabric and supplies
Choose a knit fabric with stretch. The samples use jersey and Ottoman knit, with rib knit for the neckline and hem band. You can sew the project with a regular machine or a serger.
Make it your own
Use a playful print or contrasting bands, then pair the top with the Ellis Shorts, baby bloomers, or the Sarah Skirt.
