What you’ll make
Sew a reversible set with a relaxed slouchy hat and a tubular neck warmer. Both pieces use knit fabric and can be worn with either side facing out.
The supplied hat pattern covers babies and children through teens and adults, making it suitable for matching family sets.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Cut two knit layers for a reversible hat.
- Join and finish the shaped hat seams.
- Align the layers and turn them through an opening.
- Construct the neck warmer as a clean tube.
- Sew its circular seam without catching the inner layers.
- Account for knit stretch when choosing its length.
- Close the turning openings by hand.

Fabric and materials
Use knit fabric with enough stretch to pass comfortably over the head. Knits may curl while you handle them, so pins or clips can help keep the layers aligned.
This set introduces techniques used in other knit projects, including the batwing jacket.
Make it your own
Combine contrasting knits for two distinct looks, or use the same fabric on both sides. Mix prints and solids across the hat and neck warmer.
Make the neck warmer from one folded piece or two fabrics. Adjust its depth and circumference for the wearer and the stretch of the knit.
Fit and sizing
Hat sizes run from baby through child, teen and adult. For the demonstrated 1–3-year neck warmer, the class references a 46–51 cm head circumference and shortens the stretchy tube for a closer fit.
