What you’ll make
Sew a reversible baby summer hat with a paneled crown and full brim. Two coordinating fabrics give you a different look on each side.
The pattern covers babies and toddlers from 0–3 months through 1–3 years, with head-circumference ranges to help you select a size.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Fuse interfacing to support one side of the brim.
- Join the crown panels and align their top points.
- Mark quarter points to distribute the crown around the brim.
- Assemble outer and inner hats for a reversible finish.
- Turn, press, and close the opening neatly.
Fabric choices
The pattern recommends non-stretch woven fabric for both sides, plus fusible interfacing. Two different prints make the most of the reversible construction.
It also recommends staystitching the curved areas before assembly so the woven pieces do not stretch out of shape.
Make it your own
Keep the hat reversible, add rows of topstitching, or use optional snaps to shape the brim into a cowboy-style variation.
You can add chin ties during assembly. This gives the hat a designated inside and outside rather than a fully reversible finish.
Coordinate it with the baby diaper cover for a matching summer set.
Pattern sizes
- 0–3 months: 33–38 cm head circumference
- 3–6 months: 38–42 cm head circumference
- 6–12 months: 42–46 cm head circumference
- 1–3 years: 46–50 cm head circumference
