What you’ll make
Sew a purse organizer that can also serve as a roomy pouch or toiletry bag. A main zipper closes the top, while exterior and interior compartments keep smaller belongings accessible.
Inside are a zippered pocket, additional divided pockets and an elastic key leash with a hook. The lining sits below the top edge to create a neat, recessed zipper.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Create exterior and lining pockets with custom divisions.
- Add pocket depth with a fold or smaller pleats.
- Make an interior zippered pocket with a bound edge.
- Add fabric tabs to the main zipper.
- Assemble a recessed zipper between the exterior and lining.
- Attach an elastic key leash with a hook.
- Sew boxed corners and turn the organizer through the lining.
Fabric and structure
The samples use canvas or denim-like fabric outside for body and poplin for the lining. Choose an exterior that remains manageable where several layers meet.
For a firmer organizer, add lightweight or medium-weight interfacing to the poplin. Batting or another stabilizer can also provide more structure.
Make it your own
Divide the pockets around what you carry. Make two broad sections, several narrow ones or a dedicated compartment for a small item. Distribute the fullness in one fold or several pleats.
For a coordinated set, pair it with the Moscow Bag, Ruby Bag or Allison Bag.
Finished sizes
- Small: approximately 26 cm wide × 17 cm high × 7 cm deep.
- Large: approximately 32 cm wide × 22 cm high × 9 cm deep.
Choose the size that suits the purse you want to organize or the capacity you need in a standalone pouch.
The class includes patterns for both sizes in A4 and A0 formats, plus a file with finished measurements and material guidance.
