What you’ll make

These classes cover an all-in-two cloth diaper system: a reusable PUL cover with adjustable hook-and-loop closures and a separate, foldable absorbent insert.

You’ll also sew a zippered PUL bag for carrying used inserts or the full cover. The demonstrated bag can hold approximately two or three covers.

What you’ll learn in these classes

  • Sew PUL while limiting unnecessary needle holes.
  • Form the side wings and their elastic casings.
  • Position the insert flap and closures.
  • Install waist and leg elastic.
  • Make a foldable absorbent insert.
  • Attach a zipper and form a protective flap.
  • Finish the coordinating storage bag.

Fabric and absorbent layers

The cover uses waterproof, breathable PUL. The demonstrated insert combines absorbent bamboo terry with dryliner, a stay-dry layer placed toward the baby’s skin.

Cotton terry, hemp, or another absorbent fabric can replace bamboo terry. The separate insert folds in half and opens out for washing and drying.

Make it your own

Use one wider strip or two narrower rows of baby-safe hook-and-loop tape. Add soft landing tabs so the closures can fold back before washing.

Explore reusable cloth pads and period underwear.

You can also sew the reusable facial cleansing kit.

Pattern sizes

The cover pattern has two sizes: one for newborns through 9 kg and one for 9 kg and up.

The two video classes include a diaper-cover pattern and a separate PDF with the bag measurements and materials.
