What you’ll make

Sew the Pol, a compact sling backpack designed to carry everyday essentials without the bulk of a full-size bag.

It has a zippered main compartment with an internal divider and a smaller framed zippered pocket on the front.

Make it as a crossbody bag, a small backpack, or a convertible design with detachable straps.

What you’ll learn in this class

Prepare and stabilize the exterior and lining pieces.
Sew the framed front pocket with its zipper and lining.
Construct the main opening with one or two zipper pulls.
Add an internal divider and optional stitched sections.
Shape the side panels and base.
Reinforce the webbing anchors and assemble the straps.

Fabric and structure

The demonstrated bags use canvas for the exterior and poplin for the lining.

Add interfacing to the main, side, and base pieces if you prefer a firmer bag.

The PDF identifies the webbing, zippers, adjusters, rings, and swivel clips needed for each carrying option.

Make it your own

Mix colors or prints across the front panels, choose one or two main zipper pulls, and divide the interior pocket to suit what you carry.

Sew a fixed crossbody strap or use detachable hardware. Add the rear anchor and adjustable straps for the backpack option.

Finished size

The finished Pol measures approximately 26 cm wide, 35 cm high, and 6.5 cm deep.
