What you’ll make
Sew a large curved maternity pillow with tie ends, a filled insert, and a removable cover. It can support comfortable positioning during pregnancy and later fit around the waist during feeding.
Because the insert and cover are made separately, the outer layer can be removed for washing. The sample combines two fabrics and closes with an invisible zipper.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Prepare a one-fabric or two-fabric pattern layout.
- Cut mirrored curves and align directional prints.
- Sew, turn, fill, and close the pillow insert.
- Join contrasting cover panels and finish the seams.
- Install an invisible zipper with a zipper foot.
- Attach and reinforce the fabric ties.
Fabric and sewing choices
The sample combines two exterior fabrics and uses poplin or lightweight cotton for the insert. The cover can also be cut from one fabric by joining the relevant pattern sections.
Adjust the filling for a softer or firmer insert. Finish raw edges with a serger, zigzag stitch, or a machine overcasting stitch.
Make it your own
Add the star from the sensory activity panel, the monkeys from fabric appliqué art, or the cactus pillow.
Continue sewing for a new baby with the newborn footed pants and newborn wrap top classes.
The video class covers both the filled pillow insert and the removable zippered cover and includes the project pattern.
