What you’ll make

Make a loose-fitting knit T-shirt for babies and toddlers with an overlapping back opening and snaps, allowing the neckline to open for dressing.

The pattern includes short and long sleeves. An optional version adds triangular panels at the back and sides for a light, ruffled detail.

What you’ll learn in these classes

Cut the folded front, separate backs, sleeves, and neckband.
Construct and reinforce the back snap placket.
Sew stretch fabric with a ballpoint needle.
Attach the sleeves and finish knit hems.
Distribute the neckband evenly around the neckline.
Install matching snaps.
Read the short- and long-sleeve cutting lines.

Fabric options

The main T-shirt is designed for knit fabric. Cut the optional triangles from chiffon or another lightweight fabric, or use the same knit as the shirt.

If the knit is very lightweight, add interfacing behind the snap area to support repeated opening and closing.

Make it your own

Choose short or long sleeves, keep the silhouette plain, or add triangular panels at the back and sides. The class also shows alternative turned sleeve finishes.

Pair the shirt with leggings for women, kids, and babies.
