What you’ll make

Sew a long-sleeve bib that covers a child’s clothing during meals, painting, and other messy activities.

The class version layers translucent plastic over woven cotton and includes a lined front pocket, close-fitting knit cuffs, and bias ties at the back of the neck.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Align fabric and plastic using the pattern.
  • Bind the pocket before attaching it.
  • Join the sleeves and body layers.
  • Finish seams with a serger, zigzag, or pinking shears.
  • Bind the outer edge and form neck ties.
  • Stretch knit cuffs evenly into the sleeves.
  • Use clips to avoid holes in the plastic.

Fabric and notions

The class version uses woven cotton, translucent plastic, knit fabric for the cuffs, and bias tape for the pocket edge, outer binding, and neck ties.

You can use waterproof fabric instead of layering plastic over cotton. For the plastic version, use sewing clips to hold the layers without puncturing them.

Make it your own

Choose a playful cotton print beneath the clear layer and coordinate the cuffs and bias tape. Finish the visible binding with straight stitching or a decorative zigzag.

Pattern sizes

The pattern provides two age ranges: 3–12 months and 1–3 years. Trace the appropriate size before cutting the fabric and plastic.

The video class includes the printable long-sleeve bib pattern in both age ranges.
