What you’ll make
The Dubai is a travel organizer that keeps key papers visible. A clear zippered pocket can hold a passport or ID, while two clear front compartments separate other documents.
A snap secures the organizer. Eyelets accept a swivel hook attached to a fabric or webbing strap, allowing wrist or neck carry.
Beyond travel, the compartments can organize health records, insurance cards, or other papers that need to stay together.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Sew a zipper with clear vinyl.
- Attach the zippered window to the fabric body.
- Trim corners and clip curves before turning.
- Install eyelets for the carrying strap.
- Sew separate clear document compartments.
- Make a strap and attach its swivel hook.
- Install snaps to close the organizer.
Fabric and materials
Use stable canvas, or choose poplin and reinforce the main piece with interfacing. The pattern includes clear-vinyl dividers.
You will also need a zipper, snaps, eyelets, a swivel hook, and strap material. Make the strap from matching fabric, bias tape, or decorative webbing.
Pins leave permanent holes in vinyl, so the class shows how to keep them within the stitching line. A nonstick setup helps the vinyl feed smoothly.
Make it your own
Shorten the strap for wrist carry or lengthen it for neck carry. Add a slider if you want adjustable length.
Place the eyelets at the side, center them at the top, or divide them between both sides. You can also vary the number and placement of the snaps.
