What you’ll make
The Dalia is a pull-on cross-back smock apron designed to protect your clothes while still feeling light, comfortable and special.
Its curved neckline, overlapping back and shaped front create an easy fit with no fastenings or adjustments.
Shoulder ruffles and a matching ruffled pocket define the featured version, whether you wear it for teaching, making, cooking or everyday work at home.
For a straighter shape, square neckline and wider straps, compare Dalia with the teacher’s smock already in the library.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Mark and sew darts for a clean, shaped front.
- Stabilize curved and bias-cut edges with stay tape before they distort.
- Choose a seam finish that keeps the bias-bound edge from becoming bulky.
- Ease a narrow hem around pronounced curves.
- Position shoulder ruffles and apply bias binding around the full edge.
- Gather, finish and attach the ruffle to a patch pocket.
Choose your fabric and finish
Use a woven fabric such as cotton, poplin, linen or light canvas. Fine denim can also work, provided it is not so heavy that the finished smock feels stiff.
Lighter fabrics make the ruffles softer and easier to shape. Stay tape helps protect the neckline and armhole curves, especially when the weave is loose.
The featured finish uses bias binding around the edge. The PDF includes fabric and bias requirements for each size group.
Make it your own
Keep both shoulder ruffles, omit them entirely or use a contrast fabric to make the detail stand out.
Add one or two patch pockets, change their size, leave off the pocket ruffle or use the side seams to add in-seam pockets instead.
If you prefer not to work with bias binding, overlock the edges and finish them with a careful narrow hem. The class explains where the curved areas need extra attention.
Sizes and fit
The Dalia pattern is available from S to XXL. The included body-measurement chart spans busts from 88 to 104 cm, waists from 66 to 82 cm and hips from 96 to 112 cm.
The PDF provides separate fabric and bias requirements for sizes S–M and L–XXL, together with a suggested cutting layout.
The downloadable pattern is available in A4 and A0 formats, with sizing, material requirements and cutting information.
In the complete class, Lulu guides you through the darts, stabilizing, curved finishes, ruffles, bias binding and pocket so you can confidently adapt the details.
