What you’ll make
Sew a cross-back teacher’s smock or apron that slips over the head without needing to be unfastened. Buttoned straps provide a simple way to adjust the fit.
Two large curved pockets hold frequently used items. Contrasting fabric and optional appliqués can turn the practical pocket area into a focal point.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Interface the facing and strap ends.
- Ease and prepare curved patch pockets.
- Secure appliqués with zigzag stitching.
- Assemble the front, back panels and straps.
- Finish the edges with turned hems.
- Sew buttonholes and buttons by machine.
Fabric and supplies
Choose woven fabric for the smock, plus buttons and interfacing. Add double-sided appliqué interfacing if you plan to decorate the pockets.
The sample pairs a dinosaur print with dark gray fabric for the pockets and straps. A serger can finish the raw edges, but the class also explains how to use a zigzag stitch.
Make it your own
Use one fabric throughout or contrast the straps and pockets. Add appliqués, decorative stitching or another pocket if you need more storage.

Sizing
The pattern is available in S, M, L, XL and XXL. The buttoned straps provide some fit adjustment after the main apron is assembled.
