What you’ll make

Sew a personalized chef apron with shaped pockets and a Rudolph appliqué. Padded ears extend beyond the reindeer’s face, while antlers, cheeks, eyes, spots, and a red nose complete the design.

The pattern covers children and adults, so you can create matching family aprons. Pair yours with the chef hat for a coordinated kitchen set.

What you’ll learn in this class

  • Bind straight and curved apron edges with bias tape.
  • Use a bias-binding foot where the shape and thickness allow.
  • Prepare and zigzag-stitch HeatnBond appliqués.
  • Sew, pad, turn, and insert dimensional ears.
  • Use darts and gathering stitches to shape pockets.
  • Reinforce pocket openings and other stress points.

The pocket shaping revisits a technique used in the school smock tutorial.

Fabric and supplies

The sample uses poplin with contrasting bias tape. You will also need HeatnBond or another sewable fusible web, batting for the ears, and coordinating fabrics for the face and pocket details.

Make it your own

Change the appliqué shapes, colors, pocket placement, or facial details. Switching the binding color and Rudolph’s nose can turn the Christmas design into an apron for year-round use.

Pattern sizes

The apron pattern is available in three size groups: ages 2–6, ages 6–12, and adult.

The complete video class includes the apron pattern and templates for the Rudolph appliqué pieces.
