What you’ll make
The Aura Sweatpants are an easy knit-pants project with an elastic waist, optional elastic at the ankles, and practical side-seam pockets.
Optional buttonholes or eyelets hold a decorative waist drawstring. The relaxed design works as activewear, loungewear, pajama pants, or casual everyday pants.
What you’ll learn in this class
- Insert pocket bags cleanly into the side seams.
- Reinforce pocket openings with optional decorative stitching.
- Assemble the legs and sew the curved crotch seam.
- Finish sweatshirt knit with a sewing machine or serger.
- Make a waist casing and insert elastic without twisting it.
- Make optional drawstring openings and ankle casings.
Fabric and sewing guidance
Aura is designed for sweatshirt knits. The demonstrated pair uses warm brushed sweatshirt fleece, while other knit fabrics can create lighter versions.
Use a ballpoint, jersey, stretch, or super-stretch needle appropriate for the knit. Elastic is required at the waist and optional at the ankles; the waist drawstring is decorative.
Make it your own
Leave off the drawstring openings, side pockets, or ankle elastic for a simpler version. Without ankle elastic, the legs finish straight; they can also be shortened for warm weather.
The class suggests adapting other pocket lessons to add back patch pockets or cargo-style pockets.

The pattern covers sizes 34/36 through 54/56. Its body chart spans waist 64–110 cm and hip 90–136 cm.
The listed pant length increases by size from 102 cm to 107 cm.
