Something that is beautiful on the outside can only aspire to true beauty if it is beautiful on the inside, too. We do everything we can to achieve both. It’s not just about offering the coolest fabrics, making beautiful clothes and accessories, or creating tutorials you’ll fall in love with. There is much more, and if you know us even a little, you already know it. It’s a whole philosophy of life, a huge desire to make things better, even if only a little. And that’s why stimulating children’s creativity cannot be left out of what Lulú Ferris is all about.
There is growing awareness that the educational model is outdated. We see it in the Nordic countries, but also in movements emerging in our own communities. Although they have not yet found a place within official institutions and we believe it will take a long time, new educational movements are seeking their place in society. Instead of repressing creativity—the thing that makes us unique—these movements are committed to celebrating and fostering it.
Stimulate children’s creativity to create better worldsWhen imagining a better world, we need to educate intellectually independent adults who are capable of thinking and making decisions for themselves. And for that, stimulating children’s creativity is absolutely essential, indispensable, incredibly important! It’s not about knowing all the answers to fill out a test; that doesn’t help us at all. We need a lively, adaptable, inquisitive mind capable of creating new solutions, imagining better possible worlds, and becoming an agent of change.
We need minds trained to create things that did not exist before. We need children never to stop being children. We need more art, more forms of expression, more philosophy, more creative freedom. If the school system remains determined to create identical individuals by ignoring each child’s unique qualities, let’s start the “revolution” ourselves. If the arts are marginalized in schools, let’s bring them out into the street. Even if it’s only to a tiny shop, one that is optimistic and eager to make things better.
This Holy Week, don’t put them in front of a screen. Give them the opportunity to become everything they can be. Do activities with them that awaken their enormous potential to create.
