“The etymology of tie comes from an old Italian word referring to Croatian nationality. Several centuries ago, Croatian horsemen used to wear a black scarf tied around their necks. Over time, tie came to refer to a garment accessory usually made simply of an elongated band that is looped or knotted around the neck.”
And so it won’t be black, and you can make it with whatever fabrics and prints you like, we’re bringing you a very easy tutorial for sewing a tie.
You’ll only need the outer and lining fabrics, as we explain in the video. Depending on the fabric, the lining can be just a facing or a full piece.
We thought that, with Easter coming up, if you like to dress up nicely during these days, this tutorial might be just right for you :)
The pattern includes two sizes, adult and child. The tie style we made isn’t very wide, so you can modify it however you like, using our pattern as a reference.
Imagine making the little one a tie with fabric printed with bunnies; it would be so fun. We used a very pretty poplin with monkeys, Jumping Monkeys, from Katia Fabrics’ new spring/summer 2019 collection.
Here’s the pattern. Don’t forget to print it at 100% scale and check the measurements in the test square.
