Sewing supplies that make a difference
Measuring and cutting
You have to start off on the right foot. Not having the right tools for measuring and cutting can end in disaster. You risk ruining the fabric or having the different pieces fail to fit together properly. When you have a good cutting mat, scissors, and rotary cutters that won’t let you down and special sewing rulers, you can work with peace of mind.
Securing fabric pieces before sewing
Pins are the most common solution, but they aren’t the only one. Even so, if they’re your favorite, you’re sure to love the little birds and tulips we use at Lulú: they’re much easier to see and absolutely adorable. The point is to keep the fabrics from moving at the worst possible moment.
Sometimes it’s much more convenient to use water-soluble fabric glue, especially when you have to use a whole lot of pins. It leaves no residue and is refillable, too.
And when it comes to joining delicate materials we don’t want to damage, such as plastic or kraft-tex, colored clips come to the rescue so there isn’t a single extra hole.
Finishing a garment with flair
You’ve almost finished the design you’re working on, but it’s missing something. What could it be? A detail that gives it that extra touch of personality, that extra bit of flair. You rummage through your sewing-supplies box and find nothing. Tragedy!
Don’t let that happen again—fill that box with joy and possibilities. Fringe, ric-rac, lace, pompoms, ribbons… Trimmings, in a word. And of course, don’t forget the bias tape.
