Another calendar page has fallen, and suddenly it’s November—time flies! If you’re as excited about Christmas as we are, you’ve probably already made your advent calendar, but we still have lots left to decorate. We also need to make the most of the beautiful Christmas fabrics and the new yarns we’ve brought to the shop.
So we set out to find original Christmas trees made with fabric, yarn, and other affordable, easy-to-find materials. The goal: different Christmas décor, do it yourself, and, whenever possible, made as a family. Of everything we found online, these were the ones that best brought together all the features we were looking for.
ORIGINAL CHRISTMAS TREES WITH FABRIC AND YARN.
1. Plush and puffy.

Do you remember the fabric cactus tutorial we showed you a few weeks ago? It’s time to revisit it because we’ll use the same process to make fabric Christmas trees. The only difference is that this time we’ll use wooden sticks to make the trunk. Besides Christmas fabrics, the Woodland Friends Navy by Riley Blake, with its fir trees and fawns, will look fantastic for this project.
2. Yarn trees.
It couldn’t be easier: get or make a cone yourself out of cardboard, polystyrene, or another material you can work on that will remain stable. Then all you have to do is choose the yarn or yarns you’ll use to cover it, glue the beginning and end of the yarn in place, and find decorative elements for the finished little tree. A star for the top and some balls, buttons, or ribbon to serve as tinsel… It’s up to you. You decide the size, too.
3. With tassels.

For this way of making original Christmas trees, we’ll also use yarn and a cone with characteristics similar to the one in the previous example. In this case, instead of winding the yarn around it, we’ll create “tassel tufts.” To do this, simply follow the easy process that Two Shades of Pink shows you in pictures on its blog. You can glue the tufts to the cone or secure them with pins. Although the trees in the example are monochromatic, you can also try combining several colors and add a decorative element.
4. With cushions.

This one is a little like the first, but it will take considerably more work. Instead of making a single plush tree by following the video tutorial, you’ll have to make the successive tiers of the tree using the same process. You can use a real flowerpot for the base and then thread the cushions of different sizes onto a sturdy metal rod, kebab-skewer style. You can make them any shape you like and perhaps decorate them by hanging tassels from the ends or sewing pompoms around them.
We especially liked these four options for making original Christmas trees because of their simplicity and visual appeal. Of course, you can make your own versions, combine several models into a new one, or create something completely different if you’ve had an idea while looking at these examples.
That way, instead of having just one large tree in one room of the house, you can have several original, tiny Christmas trees decorating lots of corners and… who knows, perhaps if you’ve been good, Santa Claus will leave gifts under all of them. There’s nothing to lose by trying ;)
